Currently rereading R after having plowed through JR and CG. (I'm eyeing A Frolic warily because I'm dreading the legalese.) I can't decide which I admire more: the first novel's force, ambition and all-encompassing erudition or the second's focus, virtuosity and humor.

I don't disagree
JR is not nearly as bad as everyone seems to think it is. Yeah, figuring out who's speaking when can be a little tricky; but once the book really starts to get going at about the 200 mark, it isn't difficult at all. The plots are all interconnected and develops as a result of characters misunderstanding eachother on the most minute level possible. It's fun to watch.
