Anyone have any experience with Scrivener?
Is it worth dropping 40 bucks on?

I find it super useful, both for writing fiction and for writing theses for uni, but I got it on sale for half price.
It's definitely worth it, but maybe wait for a sale if there's no rush.

Yeah I'm surprised it's not more popular honestly.
It's not going to magically make you a better writer or anything obviously (some redditors seem to say that, bizarrely), but it will help you IMMENSELY with structuring and organising.
Not just for stories, but for essays and research too.
It does a few other things like scripts but I haven't used any templates besides research, novel, and short story.
It's extremely useful if you're writing a novel with a decent amount of characters or plot. So much better than having a bunch of word docs in a folder, SO much better.

Code Monkey shit, not actual writing

Vim is superior.
one of my most cherished pieces of software

I've often thought of getting it, but I'd have to convert my folder labyrinth into whetever format that programme needs, and I am fucking terrified of that.

If it'd be that much of a task, then Scrivener is just the thing you need to keep track of that all

Yeah, and a couple of other random times during the year. They occasionally shill it on /r/writing and offer a sale if you enter a code like "reddit".

Pretty much what second anon said, if you have a big organised collection of folders you may as well use the software designed for organising that sort of thing, rather than kind of brute forcing Word and Windows Explorer to do it.
Didn't even know software like this existed. Bookmarking til it goes on sale.
