I've been pronouncing 'Banal' as 'Anal' for the past 27 years of my life. Not once has any of my fellow colleagues thought to correct me on that.
it's not said like that?
>>8355372
You thought the B was silent? Dumb frogposter.
>>8355375
First a is like the first a in banana. Second is like "all".
>>8355372
They didn't correct you because both ways of pronouncing Banal are correct.
>>8355372
There's no correct way of pronouncing anything, only a way that let's you communicate with people. If someone tries to correct you, then it means they already understood you, thus you need not be corrected.
>>8355401
What's the second way then. Those are the only two I've ever heard.
>>8355372
With the b? So like bane-al?
>>8355478
Ban-aal.
>>8355485
Really? I'm not a native speaker and I always pronounced the word just like OP.
>constantly feel embarrased about having to read alout in class due to fear of mispronouncing words
>other students are confident and plow straight through without worrying about butchering foreign/obscure words
>constantly hear audiobook narrators mispronouncing words
i bet ya'll pronounce crevasse as "kreviss" too
>>8355509
crevasse, crevice, whatever
>>8355372
It's okay, language is a social construct.
>>8355484
bane?
>the asking for a draught (drawt) of Guinness for years
>>8355931
Drought Beer is pronounced 'Drawt' in Commonwealth countries, and 'Draft' in US.
>>8355939
We say "draft" in Canada
>>8355372
And there's something terribly sad and banal about that.
>>8355953
That's nice, Candy, that's nice.
>>8355939
Where in the fuck are you even claiming to be from?
It's Draught, pronounced Draft, you witless gibbon.
Mind you, getting actual beer out of a real keg isn't so special we need to have a word for it.
Bottled beers are for club twats.

>fellow colleagues
>>8355372
English is literally the worst lenguage, we dont have those problems with Spanish.
In spanish a word is written and read in the same way and if you fuck the pronunciation of a word, you are probably clinically retarded or Andalusian
>>8356125
Yeah, central/south american spanish pronounciation is pretty easy
>>8356135
I was talking about spaniard pronunciation specifically, in south America you have some weird things like "S" instead of "z" and cutting out the last "s" of a word
>>8355372
whats with all these newfags not having watched a dfw interview...
>>8355509
>typing out y'all

>>8356189
