Has anyone here ever read a book written by someone they disagree with for the sole purpose of getting to grips with an opposition argument?

not for argument but the last thing i read was marx and i'm a >rightist
circlejerks a shit

i don't, it's a huge mistake probably.
I only read novels and I can't disagree with a novel.

Yes! I had right-leaning sentiments and chose to read Adorno, one of the big "marxist frankfurt boogeymen", only to balk at how reasonable his views actually were!
>the capitalist culture industry (or (((culture industry)))) destroys authentic, local culture for its own benefit
>why?
>the ideal process of capitalism follows something like desire -->product --> more desire --> more product^n
>if desires stop, growth stops, and the system stagnates/breaks down
>therefore even self-satisfied, emotionally healthy people must be inculcated with desire for capitalism's sake, to their potential emotional detriment
>(cue slideshow of anomie, anxiety, depression afflicting affluent post-industrial society)
>authentic/volkisch societies are self-satisfied, therefore they must be inculcated with desire
>therefore capitalism destroys volkisch societies
I'd strongly recommend it, nobody benefits from living in an intellectual echo-chamber.

What?

With me I was a conservative, then I read some Foucault and became redpilled on the patriarchy and how we oppress women and minorities in our societies

>being this triggered by someone not buying into your Frankfurt School Jewish plot conspiracy

I'm not a socialist, the way he articulated it just lead my train of though to discard volkisch notions.
