I've read Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow (Read it before the musical even) and it's very interesting - It has the same flaw of most biographies, spends unnecessary amounts of time of love affairs and doesn't go into detail on the specific work of the individual (in this case there is a lack of focus on The Federalist Papers, choosing to focus on the strife with John Clinton in New York and not on the details of the texts).
Still pretty good.
