Do you give up on books you're disliking? Even when they're Western canon books that people will accuse you of being a pleb for not reading?
Ya.

I'm in the middle of A Tale of Two Cities and I want to blow my brains out but I'm going to finish it because of that fearful reverence we all share for "the canon"

I didn't finish "Women" by Charles Bukowski
Don't feel bad
I powered through the abominably bad Pride and Prejudice. I can power through anything.

I gave up on Pynchon's V when I was like 100 pages from the end, I cannot explain the feeling but the whole novel felt insincere and just estranged from me. I did like the chapter with the priest in the sewers though. Afterwards I read Absalom, Absalom and I felt much better.
Couldn't finish The Turn of the Screw last month and it's the only book I didn't finish in my entire life.

Turn of the Screw is obsolete imo

Lucky me I guess, but what I couldn't stand was his writing style. I actually cared about what was going to happen.
