Don't be absurd, it can't be here
Until we find a place to settle
We'll just keep moving on
We stay in flocks like birds, no one dares to move along
Across a sea of bleached skulls
Chased by death in all its forms
Over mountains, under suns
We shoot to kill, let's shoot for fun

Looking for a short story that would pervade vibes similar to that of this piece, i.e emotive, fast-paced, nuanced and masterful from start to end

That's because this is just a thread for showing off

after the first part of the book, though, it gets significantly less similar.
TIL that most of /lit/ listens to really obscure musicians but reads only the most mainstream and well-known authors. I wonder if it's because there's a large number of cross posters between here and /mu/
>>8316424
Idk why, but John Ashbery's poetry reminds me of Sufjan, specifically "As One Put Drunk Into the Packet Boat", but that's probably just because they both are really nostalgic and homely for me, as a midwesterner (even though Ashbery's from New York, that's just a technicality to me). I've found similar vibes in Gass' short fiction too.

>neutral milk hotel, muse, the smiths, pink floyd and NWA
obscure?
>>8316647
Neutral milk hotel are /mu/ core but I've never met anyone else who heard of them and that's not their famous album. Lots of these artists are obscure or at the very least not mainstream. Yet /lit/ top 100 has tons of overlap with the times and modernlibrary list, while all 3 are filled with high school required reading almost everyone has read.
>>8316668
Neural Milk Hotel is pretty much the DFW of /mu/, or do you think that many people care about the autist outside of this place?
>>8316668
You are fucking sheltered as hell. Stop posting. Ridiculous.
>>8316680
I honestly can't tell if you're joking or not. Infinite Jest is an incredibly mainstream book, it's on the time top 100 list and even reddit loves DFW.

DFW got a pullitzer (or was a finalist in the contest), wrote pieces for the New York Times and the New Yorker. How much more mainstream do you want to be?
