Book equivalent to LSD: Dream Emulator? (Besides from the actual dream journal, I'm already planning on reading it)
Why not actually read it instead of planning to? Step away from this thread until you have.
So something surreal and unsettling, with an emphasis on dreams and with extensive use of the unexpected?
2666 is like a long nightmare.
Excellent book.

If you mean disconnected, highly prosaic, surreal yet still narrative works, 4 pop to mind immediatly:
1 - Asturias' Mulata (though Men of Maize counts too, though it's nowhere near as complex. Some sequences in The President count too, but only a few, and the rest is gruesome and cruel, which I doubt is what you're looking for).
2 - Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury.
3 - García Márquez' The General in His Labyrinth.
And now two more have popped to mind:
4 - Carroll's Jabberwocky, though of course, the Alice books count too.
5 - Joyce's Finnegans Wake

Yes, also naked lunch is far more lucid than I thought. I absolutely love that book.

I literally just finished reading Naked Lunch when I posted this haha, partially why I made this thread in the first place. I'd say Naked Lunch is very different to LSD, although I can't really put my finger on why. Possibly because Naked Lunch feels more detached due to the fact there's so many different narratives and stories whereas LSD feels more personal because although it's just as surreal, it's all from one person's perspective and I guess is all one narrative

Because I doubt it will take me long to read and I could easily finish it while waiting for another book to arrive.

If that's what you're looking for, then Asturias' Mulata fits it perfectly.

It IS pretty short if you only count the text. The art is pretty important too though.
