James franco has the rights to blood meridian. If you've seen his adaptation of the sound and the fury (Faulkner) or child of God (mcarthy) you'll know that this is really bad news.

Personally I don't think blood meridian could be adapted into a decent movie (not just because of the level of violence)....... however Suttree would be fantastic and I actually think franco would be decent in the lead role.

I did not know that Cormac McCarthy wrote the screenplay for The Counselor.

I caught it on TV thinking it's a typical Hollywood shitfest (it features a few big actors) but it's surprisingly dark, and it doesn't really feel like a movie. It was critically panned but I assume because it's too... I don't know, it doesn't flow like a movie at all. Maybe in 10 years it will have some kind of underground following.

The history of the rights to blood meridian is interesting. Ridley Scott used to have them but decided it would be unfilmable. I think franco approached him to collaborate on the project recently and ridley said "no franco!". I think he wanted Russell Crowe to start as the judge.


Back on topic - I'd like to see train dreams by denis Johnson adapted. Also i've read several George Saunders short stories that I thought would be fantastic (Matt Damon, playing an over weight Philip Seymour Hoffman starring in the 400 pound ceo).

There will be blood is definitely one of my favourite adaptations..... But my most bestest favorite adaptation was Houston's adaptation of flannery o'Connors "lifeblood".

I think a movie of the crying of lot 49 if in the right hands would be more enjoyable than the book. I have never felt this way about any other book but it's all I could think of after finishing it. Not sure what director could pull it off though. The length of the book really lends itself to having the movie be completely shot for shot the book.
