starting with the greeks, and following on from the former premise, herodotus

2) use their version
3) never look back
Just remember whites invented civilization and you'll be fine.
That's a difficult one, if you have no real base. But I'd say start with something like Penguin History of the World or Europe, then read something about your own country. Can't really recommend much not knowing where you're from or any areas you're interested in.
