So Sad to Fall in Battle. It's about Iwo Jima and was made into Letters from Iwo Jima, basically.
It's not bad. I also recommend anyone interested in any sort of military history to read War is a Racket by Smedley Butler. I have more suggestions but they're not jappo.

almost every single post war author is writing about ww2. if not explicitly, then thematically. it's not always immediately obvious but basically 90% of acclaimed literary books come back to ww2 or touch on it in a major way.
