It's not literature, but Michael Gelven's "Truth and the Comedic Art" would fit the bill in some ways. He's not impenetrably dense by any means, but he uses the exact right word in its proper place to convey extremely precise ideas. I lost my copy before I finished, but it markedly improved my clarity of thought and self-expression and had me checking the dictionary every page or two.
