Neither is "better" than the other. It's not a matter of taste, it's a matter of form and function. Third person (limited or omniscient) is objective, while first person is subjective. The third person narrator always knows the reasons behind which things occur in the narrative/motives behind characters' actions. First person is always unreliable, no reader can trust him/her in narrating certain scenes or passages (best example is Lolita).

IMO, First person is a much more useful tool, especially with show over tell (expression over exposition).

Tl;dr third person is often too explicit, while first person is subtle.
