I think Augustus was his greatest novel. It's the only novel I ever cried during.

It's an ok novel, not outstanding

There are also a lot of fascist themes in the book. For example, Williams emphasises slimness as beautiful; Edith, Grace and Driscoll all fall into this. Lomax is symbolic for the resentfulness felt by cripples and the infirm and is thus covertly presented as an argument for eugenics. Williams casually talks of 'negro hands' like they are not even human.

/lit/ hyped it up a lot, and I knew exactly what I was getting myself into, exactly what the book would be like.
Still, I liked it. It was well-written and enjoyable.
