Start with:
Plato
The Bible
Hermes Trismegistus
There's little point in reading later stuff without having at least these under your belt
unless you're reading just so you can look mysterious and cool

who doesn't want to be a mysterious and cool DARK WIZARD
Don't bother.
It's all a bunch of ancient jewish mumbo jumbo.

Anguish by Friedrich Albrecht Schenck
this is a more scholarly aproach to the subject, would recommend
Yesterday I went to a symposium in London on Hermeticism/alchemy and had a chat with Timothy Freke, who wrote this book. It's a decent introduction to the original teachings of Hermeticism if you don't have any prior knowledge.
There's some videos from the symposium on YouTube.

The other speakers were good, they spoke a bit about alchemical history, with some stuff on Heinrich Khunrath, Robert Fludd and Carl Jung. Freke's talk was the last one, it took a while to get going but when he got past his introduction he was very good.
