I'm almost done with "Down and Out in Paris and London" and I really enjoy it. It's the first Orwell book that I read, and I'd like to read another when I'm finished with this one. I was thinking about The Road to Wigan Pier or Coming Up for Air.
Thoughts on these two ?

Have you read homage to Catalonia yet? Recommended

Forgive me, it's been a long day

Do read 1984

No problem, it's been a long day for me too. I also forgot to mention Homage to Catalonia in his books that interest me.

I take note of your suggestion, especially since I enjoy war stories (I read Mario Rigoni Stern's "The sergeant in the snow" before and really enjoyed it).

His essays are great too. If you can find a collection of his essays, they are well worth the read.
I enjoyed Wigan Pier. I enjoyed the fact that he realized socialism was needed because the lives of the workers were so utterly miserable but he had no faith in socialists because all the ones he had met in England were pretentious, eccentric, contrarian wankers.

Read 1984 with the introduction from Thomas Pynchon who really clears a lot up.

What a coincidence, I just started reading it.

Stupid question, because I seemed to have missed something. Why do the narrator and Boris need to sneak out with their stuff when they go to pawn it off? Why do they need to hide that?
