I studied French and am pretty comfortable with it. I used to like the Symbolists and all those great novelists like Celine and Houellebecq. Now I'm learning German. I studied a little bit of the other Romance languages, also Latin and Attic Greek, but I hate the way they sound and have fallen out of practice with them.

What do you mean "purely for literary purposes"? Does it mean I can't talk in this language with anyone, ever and I can't visit a country, ever, can't read newspapers/news websites in this language, ever?

If so, it is really stupid idea and doable probably only in Ancient Greek or Sanskrit.

I taught myself French and German for this reason. Of course, it's a priceless asset in life.
