Can someone explain why this book is hailed as the greatest comedic novel of all time? I read the first fifty pages and couldn't get any farther mostly because Ignatius' dialogue felt overdone and never got a laugh out of me. At least Jones was funny, but that was pretty much the literary equivalent of black face

I got about half way through. I think a big part of the humour is the juxtaposition of just how tragic literally all the characters and how they unknowingly go about their lives despite it.
Still I didn't find it that funny

He certainly was fat and bizarre enough. Add a neckbeard and it would work. Never will happen, he's dead.
