I cant tell if I love literature just so I feel superior or if

everyone on /lit/ reads to feel superior

You SHOULD read for Wisdom, but that's a difficult task to do because Wisdom can be a difficult thing to discern.

because good literature, even if it's fiction, is about understanding the world around you and the individual dreams of the men who inhabit the world.

Literature will always be it's own thing, the amount of freedom in this medium of creative communication is unlike anything that can be replicated by movies or music.

Movies and music have their own individual merits, but they represent different realms of conscious existence. They are both based on the capture of information passing through time.

Literature floats in time, it's timeless. It's information are the building blocks for your own head to exercise it's own universe.
