What's wrong with a dictionary app? Also on a phone you can look up images for a more intuitive definition.
Are there any print dictionaries that consist only of words someone's likely to actually look up? I.e. no short commonplace shit everyone already knows.
google is the best dictionary, I love looking up definitions and especially etymologies of random words while faffing about online, it's easy and enlightening
the merriem webster dictionary app is the best thing ive ever bought on my phone. its actually free but if you wanna use its cool thesaurus and super neat vocab enhancing games (i play em at work) its about 3 bucks

Depends which language you are reading in. If you're reading in Russian a French dictionary won't help you much.
Pro Tip: If you want to know what a word really means, use an encyclopedia.
Dictionaries tell you what plebs mean a word means meme.

i use a two volume OED from maybe the thirties, not bad but not close to perfect
