Daaaamn, just got to the 11th chapter of V. Should I read Faust real fast before I start it or will I be fine without it?
Why haven't you read Faust
>>7885512
>tfw <10% of this board has read faust
>>7885512
Cuz I'm a cuck. Should I read it now?
>inb4 you should read it regardless of V.
I know, and I will. I just want to know if it's necessary or I can keep on with The Pinecone and read it after
>>7885513
It's pretty astounding. The work is short enough to read in a few hours and serves as necessary background for a multitude of works, especially German. Why you wouldn't dedicate a day to reading Faust is beyond me
>read history book
>flip to endnote i see
>have to read that book as well to understand whats going on
>book also has endnotes
>have to read that book to understand the current book
>it also has endnotes

You can read it regardless of Faust. But, seriously, read that soon. And don't read Goethe's first; read Marlowe's.

>>7885543
lmao you said 'hard'
>>7885519
Part 1 yeah though I guess part 1 and the last bit of 2 are probably all that's required for getting references purposes.
The bulk of part 2 is far from trivial to read though
>>7885556
Im only being ironic ironically dude....
>>7885510
faust is a fast read.
Which translation is best though?
I had never heard of Faust before. You guys mean Marlowe or Goethe?
>>7885597
Marlowe = Doctor Faustus
Goethe = Faust
>>7885606
Ok so I started Faust and it's too boring, not going to finish. I will read V anyway.
>>7885630
Eh, you'll work up to it. Don't beat yourself up. Enjoy V
>>7885597
it generally refers to Goethe but they are both based on the same story
>>7885630
read it out loud and do different voices for the characters
