>>7859216

>>7859216
any is fine really. Probably would recommend a reading GR after you are used to his style though
Serious question.
Everyone I know in real life who likes Pynchon is a total prick. Do you think it's just a coincidence that these pricks all like his work or is there something about his writing that attracts pricks?
I want to read Pynchon but I don't want to be like them.
>>7859216
don't bother he's a juvenile hack
>>7859262
/lit/ is real life and we are all nice people
>>7859262
sadly, most people that read are just pretentious pricks, whether its Pynchon or john Grisham.
I like to think that >>7859280 is right and people here are the small portion of readers with a sense of humor, but i doubt that's true. i'm pretentious as fuck and i dont even mean to be. i try to avoid talking about reading
>>7859262
I think because Pynchon's work is somewhat hard to grasp and the fact he's a very notable author that mainstream culture ignores, people tend to be smug about his work. I think it's just a coincidence senpai. I've met one other person irl who read Pynchon and she was pretty nice.

Avoid talking about reading, your books, philosophy, you know what? Just avoid talking in general, avoid people too. Avoid everything, fuck everything, acquire knowledge.
>>7859295
this, there's like an inherent fedora that goes with citing joyce etc as your favourite authors.
Since this thread seems like a good place to add this, is the Crying of Lot 49 at Walmart really the one they send you? I ordered a certain edition of a book once and they sent me a different edition. The Lot 49 book they have is the 1989 edition with a girl standing in front of a billboard with the trystero. Are they going to end up sending the perenial harper edition with the aqua color and stamp to the right?

C'mon, someone has to have this edition
>>7859195
Stupid, terrible book. I only recommend this if you are interested in stamp collecting and the mail system.
>>7859262
Nope, you have no choice. He's the greatest living author but you have to strike a Faustian bargain where you agree to become a total prick, in exchange for which you are allowed to read and enjoy his novels. Make the deal. It's worth it.
