If the finger is gangrenous I will cut it off the save the hand, and I'll do it without ego. I might loose work, but better to loose part of something to save the rest than to mar the whole thing to make something work when it doesn't.

I've thrown away manuscripts simply because I was not happy with what I'd written, and would have felt genuinely wrong attempting to dump such mediocrity on anyone. It was garbage, I accepted it, and I moved on to better projects.
