What's /lit/ opinion on this?
I personally love it because:
>humor
>philosophy
>historical references
Never read it, but it's definitely on my list. I'll bump your thread/give you an extra IP to samefag.
How does it compare to other voyage literature like Gulliver and Sinbad? More ribald, right? Actually, I read a short excerpt of it, concerning the weapon-growing plants. Rabelais clearly knows things deeply, so again, I'll try to read it entirely in the future.
Why again are they giants?
Also what's up with physicians being the greatest french authors
>Rabelais
>Celine

But not Moliere, Hugo, or Proust?

what about the bit here he pisses on a city?
or that other side story which is just one long 'axe wound' joke?
alfred jarry loved it.crowley also liked it enough to name his religion of Thelema after the abbey of theleme in the book. "Do what thou wilt" was taken from rabelais too.the books are humorous and read well even today, especially when you consider how long ago it was written. it's a good absurd, episodic adventure. still shocking to think that rabelais worked at a monastery.
