This is a great fantasy book series and GRRM is a great writer. Prove me wrong. Top tip: you can't.

Book 4 will prove you wrong
>>
>>7816161
Who is the best character in ASOIAF and why it's Jaime?
>>
>>7816175

this. Things went downhill fast after a Storm of Swords.
>>
>>7816161
>Sunset found her squatting
or however it goes
>>
>>7816514

Bronn, you pleb.
>>
>>7816521
Danys arc was interesting in ADWD, seeing her go from timid to fire and blood at Daznak's pit, the rest of it was pretty lame though.
>>
>>7816175
I'm about halfway through book 4 and I reckon its 50/50 - The Greyjoys, particularly Victarion, are interesting and cool as fuck. Jaime is still based too.

And then there's Brienne of fucking Tarth swanning about without a clue, all the dorne shit and Sam Tarly. I feel these could be alright but the Dorne chapters are too intermittent and I keep forgetting what's actually going on down there.

>This is a great fantasy book
>great fantasy book
>fantasy book

and therein lies the crux of the problem

You're asking us to acknowledge that you're reading the "cream of the crap". You're like a dog begging us to recognize his supreme ability to enjoy chew toys.

By all means, chew away and enjoy yourself, just don't parade yourself around and expect anyone to be impressed by your dull eyed mastications.

This is the board for literature, not soulless LotR fanfics, Mary Sue power fantasies or pseudo-Machiavellian softcore politi-porn

>>

Edgy. There's an edginess thread on the front page, suggest you go there.
>>
>>7816617
lit used to like ASOIAF before it got adapted to television, I see it in the lists for best fantasy series in the wiki, what happened?
>>
>>7816627
r9k started coming here because they're all supreme gent-le-men and suddenly everybody was afraid to like things in case they got called cucks.
>>
I read the opening of one of them. Had something about gargoyles speckled with bird shit.

I think I gave up after two pages. God awful.
>>
>>7816639

>people are afraid of bitter fat virgins
>>
I can't help but admire the complexity of the ASOIAF world, but the writing is average at best. It's edgy half baked LOTR and nothing more tbqh familia.
>>
>>7816621
>>7816624
The sad part is none of that post was satire

genre plebs are the trash of this once decent board, and discussing these wastes of ink and paper is smothering the only literary community on the internet that isn't dead, pleb or garbage

"...Thus we debase
The nature of our seats and make the rabble
Call our cares fears; which will in time
Break ope the locks o' the senate and bring in
The crows to peck the eagles."

Sorry my bad, it was in the recommended reading in the epic fantasy section right next to LOTR and the Black Company.
>>
>>7816659

He's definitely a better world builder and story teller. Of course, he doesn't write in pompous prose that lit likes. It's not very suitable for the genre.
>>
>>7816659
Its wonderful pulp. Very entertaining and immersive in its own right which is more than nothing.

"Edgy" has lost all meaning from overuse so try again.
>>
>>7816660
>>7816617
Discussing books on a /lit/ board is interesting. Metaposts like this are shitstains from people with nothing interesting to say.

>>7816561
Bronn is a by-character. His role is way too small to earn my praise and he plays the same self-serving game as everyone else but more successfully.

>>7816514
Jon, Jaime, Ned, Varys, and Jojen all serve a greater good.

Everyone else is an hopeless egotist, but Bronn, Sandor and Oberyn should get honourable mentions for transcendent levels of egotism.
>>
>>7816758
Theon is very interesting.

Varys, little finger, ned stark, tyrion, and Bronn.
>>
>>7816761
As an experiment Theon is fascinating but I'm not so sure Reek or Theon are that great. I doubt he will get a real redemption.
>>
The patrician choice for best house is obviously Greyjoy with the worst one being the Starks.
>>
>>7816805
>Greyjoy
What sort of degenerate are you?
>>
A Game of Thrones is actually good. A Clash of Kings is average, everything after just goes bad.
>>
>>7816805

Found the degenerate that doesn't value honor and loyalty
>>
>>7816817
And where did their honour get them ? The values they stand for are not bad, but they are the most boring out of all the houses. The only one with some decent development is Sansa.

>>7816809
I just find them the most interesting, an outcast, somewhat independent house, sticking to their old ways. Also, The Drowned God is interesting with all the rituals surrounding him, it is almost like something written by Lovecraft : He Who Dwells Beneath the Waves, the drowning ritual, what is death may never die, etc.
>>
>>7816842
Their honor bred loyal bannerman that will most likely turn on the Boltons
