I read it in 2013, and I only remember some scenes, passages, and elements that really struck me.
I can't for the life of me remember what brought everything to Mancuso finding the porno cards in the safe though. Him escaping with the college gf seemed like a great way to end it. I don't remember feeling sad in the third act, so I'm confused about your feelings and would like to hear why you felt that way.

My takeaway was this:
She was an insufferable cunt (and so was IJR), and she saw the light in him when they'd been in college. She was the only person who cared enough about him to sacrafice her time to willingly embrace him to make a functional person out of him, be his friend.

kek yeah maybe that is a little sad. But it's also very sweet.
Maybe Toole wanted someone like that, although I've read that he was nothing like Ignatius.

I recall finding it quite interesting that IJR used almost every situation for personal gain in some fashion.
