There's nothing to miss unless you try. People miss when they read it "deeply."

The message is simply that the world betrays children (humans), there's nothing "out there," there is no choice but between solitude and vulgarity, and that innocence is bliss.

I despised this book in high school, then a year ago my now ex told me I reminded her of Holden.
