Tell me, /lit/: Is there any reason to finish a work that you know is utter trash?
I have 50 pages or so of a novella I'm working on, and I hate everything about it. The characters are stupid and disgusting, the setting makes no sense, the concept makes even less sense-I've also lost any sense of enjoyment in writing it, and find it a painful exercise.

so you edit it to be less shit
are you retarded
>The characters are stupid and disgusting, the setting makes no sense, the concept makes even less sense-
I want to read this.

You're not seriously implying all works are salvageable, are you?
I don't think you realize how bad this novella is. I'm so bored with it I've forgotten most of what I wanted to do with it anyway.

For self actualization.

That's not a bad reason.
Tell me, is it normal to hate almost all of your work so severely? I can't believe some of the trash I've created, and I can't imagine I'll ever make anything that isn't trash. I have no ability to craft anything intricate or thrilling.

i will require sauce of that.

i think they are, basically you write on top of it
it's an interesting way to write
very long writing prompts

OP here.
I've done that before, where I eventually scrap an entire draft and just write something else over it.
It's quite miserable, because the resulting product, my product anyway, is still garbage.
I considered just finishing it with what few ideas I had and then rewriting it based around the structure itself.
I mean more practice is always good you dirty weeb.

rewriting also works
it is what people used to do prior to word processors, after all
i must admit to assuming your work is shit because you are the type of person that posts irrelevant anime gifs

Isn't that what I've been saying? It is shit. To my credit, my story isn't like one of my Japanese annie-mays, but it's still garbage.
I post irrelevant anime pictures to garner undeserved attention when it either makes someone smile or makes them so angry they feel the need to stop by the thread and insult me.
Despite it being objectively utter trash, it is from the heart and it's for my parents and that's all that matters to me. I don't care really about it's artistic merit.

if you can stomach it yes. It's not so much about writing the best thing ever but learning. Try to finish it and edit it and move on to the next.

Will the pleasure of writing ever return, or is it gone forever? The only things I enjoy writing now are posts, shit or otherwise, and emails.
I want this particular work to die and be buried forever. I hate it and everything about it.

Write a retrospective summary the length of your choosing concerning what the major failure points were.
