Here's what I need: A really funny book that will make me feel less depressed due to girl trouble. Preferably short as well. I just really need it right now.

I like reading travelling related books in that mood.
On The Road and The Dharma Bums are lovely upbeat short and fun.
I also enjoyed Motorcycle Diaries as a short fun light hearted read.
I like travel related stuff when I want cheered up.

Excuse the redundancy, I am drunk.
I also enjoy Hunter S Thompson when I want a fast light hearted read. He was just a really funny man. The core if his work may be dark, but it's under a veneer of fun comedy.
Also Herodotus' histories, while very long is both informative and really funny. You'll learn while laughing your ass off.

No problem man, don't let stuff get you down. I've turned to books, music and art in general when I've been down and it's always served me well.

A few passages are a bit melancholic but overall it'll make you smile. It's surreal yet light hearted.

Thanks a lot. I don't mind dark comedy. I loved Slaughterhouse-Five.
I appreciate all these suggestions, everybody.

m8, much as i love that book, it's about when Brautigan was as happy to be with his wife and starting a family. Brautigan isn't generally good in the wake of a break up unless you want to be hospitalized.

>it's about when Brautigan was as happy to be with his wife and starting a family.
I might skip it for a while then. Thank you.
>>7695025
Dude.. you can't seriously be implying that TFiA is a bad idea in that respect compared to Candide.
They literally both contain sex scenes in the grass.
>>7695041
I don't care about sex as long as it doesn't make me long for love. Candide is funny, right? Will I be okay?
>>7695044
They are both funny and absurd. Neither will give you the feels because the writer kisses a woman every few chapters unless you really are that shaken. If you are just read the Pokey Puppy or something.
>>7695041
I'm saying that maybe he doesn't want to read a book where the happiness of being a young family is a major focus. Candide has lots of sex but it also has lots of people getting syphilis and makes a lot of fun of romantic ideas of love. Brautigan is a great writer, but I really wouldn't give him to anyone going through a break up. It's not the worst book of his to give to anyone going through a break up, but the waking up in the grass to watch the sunrise with your woman scenes aren't exactly the same thing as what Candide does.
>>7695044
Don't listen to the other, anon. Brautigan is a great writer and I would recommend him in any other circumstance and would even buy you a copy, but not when you're lonely. Wait until you're over the break up. Then read his work.
Invisible Cities
Is this an /r9k/ invasion?
How do we defend against it?
>>7695129
I invaded this board a few months ago blogging about my pathetic love life and tried to read more to make a girl love me. I'll leave when I'm happy again. Shouldn't be too long.
I thought Catch-22 was hilarious

I bought that book but haven't read it yet. Will it make me long for love, or am I good?
>>7695150
You're good, it's mainly whores and men. It might make you long for the Snowdens of yesteryear, but that's a different kind of sad. Hilarious book.

How is high school and /r9k/ this time of year?
>>7696249
Just out of high school. I'm not /r9k/ level depressed. Just a little bummed out. I'm feeling pretty groovy right now, but I'll be back tonight after seeing her.

I found that the best treatment to relationship issues is radical feminism.
It makes you understand women at a depth you could never otherwise achieve. Sadly, often better than they understand themselves (since most women are kept ignorant on radical feminist theory thanks to lobbying by the pseudo-liberal media I guess), so it might lead to awkward situations, and besides there's the risk of turning into an awful mansplainer and faux feminist ally because you only *think* you understand them well, but if you stay humble and empathic then things should be good.
>>7697357
Seconded. Dworkin is pretty cool and I've met so many shitty allies in college. It's really obvious to people who are actually into feminism.
