Analytic dominates in the Anglophone world. It inclines toward empiricism, formalism, and simplicity. It has little interest in metaphysics or style. Perhaps it can typified by this anecdote about Samuel Johnson from Boswell's Life of Doctor Johnson:

Perhaps it can typified by Jacques Derrida's statement in Of Grammatology: "il n'y a pas de hors-texte" ("there is no outside-text" or "there is no outside of textuality").

Analytic Philosophy is philosophy based in logic, eg. Plato, Descartes, so on.

Continental Philosophy is philosophy based in feeling, eg. tumblr. Not really, but it is of a similar vein.
