Uzumaki. Not really "/lit/" but I quite enjoy it.

Vagabond. This has been one of the most significant works of art I ever enjoyed in my life, and I constantly return to it for inspiration whenever I am feeling down or when I need to build up more energy to keep writing and working.

The Musashi portrayed on this manga, Michelangelo, Beethoven: these men are the models I follow in my life, and so far I have made enormous progress by fighting to write and draw every day, even when I am tired or uninspired or depressed.

To have in your art, in your work, in your daily strive some sort of sacred value; to offer blood, sweet, marrow, brain fluids and infinite toil in honor of your craft and not to expect any love or recognition for it, but simply enjoy your own evolution; to lay down at night on your bed and say to yourself, in your thoughts, there in the dark, that you are on the right path and that your efforts are meaningful and to know that you are not fooling yourself: that’s a sublime feeling. I suffer a lot facing my own limitations and carving out the mediocrities in me while at the same time feeding the talents and virtues, but in the end the pain and anxiety are worth it; what you lack in instant pleasure you gain in life-long inner value and meaning.

But back to the manga: the study and admiration of the Musashi presented in Vagabond (more than the real, historical person) is one of my ways of reminding myself to be a strong person and avoid the weakness that attacks all of us. The difference between a strong person and a weak one is not the absence of fear and laziness, but the decision to overcome those feelings, even when they seem to overwhelm you. Vagabond is great at presenting this lesson for the reader.
