The Game by Neil Strauss really helped me out. There are people who will dismiss it because it's a "pick-up artist" book, but those people missed the point entirely.

Fuck this, not even dismissing it on the ground which you've stated. The book is not about learning pick up, just a the real story of a nerd-to-player shitty writer. I give the man his props because he really is good at picking up chicks, but the book is garbage. It's more like an introductory, that leaves you wanting to know more about the pick up community rather than something that is enjoyable and satiable.

It's like reading a book on physical exercise to get fit. Reading it by itself doesn't do anything, but it can help if you actually *do* something with the information.
