Are there any good authors from this country? how can one nation be so devoid of talent?
>>

Are you looking for Norwegian authors to read or is this just your "sick #bantz xD"?
>>
Erlend Loe.
Naïve. Super is short, easy to read novel. I can imagine average anon might find the protagonist annoying.
He's mainly written children books tough.
>>
>>7365358
They had one but he was a Nazi traitor so they don't talk about him much
>>
>>7365358
Denmark was already taken so Dee Eff Wee had to bear his blue cross up north and settle for haunting Norway.
>>
>>7365358
Knut Hamsun, Henrik Ibsen, Alexander Kielland, Tarjei Vesaas, Peter Wessel Zapffe, Jonas Lie, Karl Ove Knausgård

just to name a few
>>
>>7365358
Anyone who thinks a country is devoid of artistic talent just hasnt looked hard enough.

Semi-related, but anyone find it impressive how a country like Ireland - which in terms of population is tiny - can produce so many great authors? What was that down to? Foreign oppression and a good western education? Gaelic culture? Shit weather and humor? Mass multi generational suffering and just terrible luck coupled with a bizarre dark optimism?
>>
>>7365358
Some of my favorites from norwegian literary canon, in no particular order:
Hamsun, Ibsen, Flogstad, Askildsen, Knausgård, Ulven, Bringsværd, Solstad, Kjærstad, Garborg, Wergeland, Skram, Sandel, Vesaas, Hoel, Nedreaas, Hobæk Haff, Loveid, Roll Anker, Fangen, Borgen, Boyson, Hagerup, Sandemose, Loe, Duun, and Grieg.
>>
>>7365358
You mean the home of one of the greatest living novelists and future nobel laureate?
>>
>>7365396
>>7365489

Thanks, added those names to my backlog. Apart from Ibsen, Hamsun and Knausgard I recognize no other name, so it'll be fun (Ligotti mentions Zapfe in his books, but that's about it).
>>
>>7365358
Knausgaard is becoming a bit of a /lit/ darling, and I imagine even more so when they publish part five and six of My Struggle.
>>
>>7365440

>What was that down to?

Rampant alcoholism.
>>
>>7365440
Shit weather and humor?
I'm thinking this. Ireland is neither pleasant nor awful to be outdoors in, so I guess most people just stayed indoors and entertained themselves doing indoor activities.
>>
>>7365358
Ibsen?

The greatest dramatist ever to have lived?

Fucking hell /lit/ is shit
>>
>>7365589

well Joyce certainly thought so.
>>
>>7365358
Let me guess. You are from the US?
>>
>>7365604
Well, he also wrote Exiles, so that might tell you something about the values of his opinions. (or it might not, I've neither read nor seen it, I'm just jerking)

I'll admit that I fell for this for a few seconds.

Henrik Ibsen and Knut Hamsun are god-tier.
I still can't understand how such great critics of society could come from our shitty PC commie country
Every time i bring up some of the issues Ibsen wrote about I get called a nazi, even though all I did was point out a flaw in democracy, I didn't say shit about autocracy
>>
>>7365773
I similarly don't understand how Herman Melville could come from a continent that was inhabited solely by Indians with out a system of writing.

knausgård is nothing but another leftist prick parroting the Norwegian government's marxist propaganda and their warped view of literature
>>
>>7365358
Fuck you, Ibsen basically invented the modern play.

And they're really good on top of the innovation. Hedda Gabbler is my waifu.
>>
>>7365396
Arnulf Overland
>>
>>7365358
I can't tell if you're joking or not, Ibsen and Hamsun were both great in their own right... Sure Norway didn't have as many good writers as like the US or Russia, but there have been some.
>>
>>7365806
A Doll's House is an essential piece of feministic fiction, Ibsen was ahead of his time, he viewed women as human on the same line as men.
>>
>>7365358
I bet OP got rekt in his shitty thread in /pol/ and fled to /lit/

>>
>>7366646
The growth of the soil, hunger

My struggle, what does lit think of that?

Kjell Askildsen is my favourite writer, period. Like Raymond Carver but more varied, more 'surreal' or kafkaesque at times as well. If he wasn't from some backwater country and with few translations I think he'd be considered a contemporary of Alice Munro and the like.
>>
>>7365489

Please pick the top three or so from this list (minus Ibsen, Hamsun, Askildsen, and Knausgard) and talk about how good they are.
