>Try thinking up a million dollar screenplay
>I either always get writers block deciding the "setting" or it always devolves into to the movie Badlands
Feels bad being creatively bankrupt.

>Try thinking up a million dollar screenplay
No matter what pseud think, if this was easy, it wouldn't be worth a million dollars.

I agree but not because it requires a lot of artistic talent
Hollywood seems to have contrived this "secret formula" for screenplay that seems to consistently make millions despite the movies all seeming similar.
It's something I can't quite put my finger on since I haven't tried properly analysing any films but every time I go to the movies I always feel like there's something that never seems to change in the plot.
To relate this back to OP I think it's impossible to write a screenplay that can compete with the writers who have all sorts of help in knowing what exactly makes people go see a movie so you're better off just writing a book.
Write a horror script about a haunted house or some shit. That's the fastest way to a million dollars for unproven screenwriters

heh nice.
Sci-fi / capeshit seems to be what's in now...
Don't worry about it, even Malick more or less made Badlands twice
The screenplay game is kind of regulated to oscar bait as far as major studios go. The bread and butter blockbuster films are literally designed for guys in china who love exploding robots and don't even bother reading subtitles.

You lack education. Read more non-fic. Meditate on what makes a good story. Setting means jack shit. You are writing for plot.
Well, not you. Successful people.

>Try thinking up a million dollar screenplay
Problem.
Start small.
Write short five minute scripts consisting of scenes that could be in a much longer movie.
Have fun.

Badlands is pure underrated kino so you're at least at a good starting point
Well OP, it could be worse, you could be me and everything you write turns into a self-insert power trip rape fantasy...
good luck getting anyone to even read your screenplay
start directing short films
