How do i make money self publishing?

I want to die with a large bibliography that's my only goal..

Write books people want to read. Then get them to read them.

Def a good idea..

This is generally considered the easiest way, I think. Scope out the market, see what's selling, and without copying it whatsoever try and write something with a vaguely similar premise. No need to reinvent the wheel. If hamburgers are selling extremely well, then experimenting with spaghetti-O sloppy Joe's is quite a risky maneuver and probably won't go well, so make your own burgers but with different amounts and types of condiments. Personally, I just write what I want. It just so happens my writing is fairly good quality and what I enjoy writing does indeed have a market of sorts so I've made a few hundred dollars so far.

There's different ways you can approach it depending on what you want to write. With erotica, I hear that basically going with short stories and novelettes is extremely popular. Sit down, open it up, and it can be read in a short amount of time. A quick fix of smut. Come up with different locations, different people, consensual or rapey, romantic or manipulative, raunchy or clean, etc.

One of my books that have been met with a degree of popularity is an action novelette with lots of firearms, less than 17k words that a fast reader can definitely finish in one setting. At only $0.99 per sale ($0.35 royalty) there's not much money in it, in fact I make more from KENP so going with KDP Select via Kindle is crucial. That puts the book on Kindle Unlimited for readers to check out for free, but every single page earns you money. I think for August there was $19,000,000 for KENP, and thus it was divided amongst all the KENP that all the books got, resulting in 42% of a penny per page. 200 pages is $0.84 (over $1.00 in Canadian or Australian)

So just keep writing and self-publishing, but if you don't do any marketing then don't be surprised if you barely make any money whatsoever in your first year. If you get $100 you'll be lucky, but hey, you're doing what you love and it's $100 of profit, who's going to say 'no' to that? Spend a year playing videogames and you're spending money, not making it, unless you have some kind of super-successful Youtube or Twitch channel perhaps. Going to need a likeable personality though.

Is writing smut viable? How do you even sell it?
Can someone redpill me into writing smut for a living?

If that's what you love to write, then write it. Getting covers might be difficult, but you can always just try and keep the titles simple so that it gets the point across right away. Also use keywords. I don't know, just write what you want, title it what you want, put it out there, and keep writing. Find places to market it, don't be obnoxious about it, and in time (will probably take months or years) you'll start getting ratings/reviews. Hopefully mostly positive but there will ALWAYS be some negative comments, if not right away then eventually. If your stuff is good, or at least decent, then eventually you'll start to get a readerbase. Make sure you have an email or something that you put out there for people to contact you with, or for you to contact others with.

It is unbelievably rewarding to talk to someone you've never met and never even spoke to before they read your stuff, then hear their COMPLETELY unbiased opinion (since they know fuck-all about you) that they think your writing is great. Or even better, they say they really like it but have a few things that could be improved upon. Such criticism is invaluable.

I don't like to write smut, but it seems like an easy way to make money and I'm currently broke as fuck. Also, the challenge of writing trashy porn with higher literary value sounds fun.
I think I'll spend some time searching about the current trends on the porn novel communities and try to do something like that. My dream is to write the Ulysses of smut lit.
