>when she uses the en dash properly and she still succing

Yeah, surprisingly, most people don't see a point in being intentionally rude for no reason.

Shocker.
>>
>>10026815
Wouldn't it be "they," since we're referring to the person and not an object possessed by that single generic person of unspecified gender?
>>
>>10026828
please focus this thread is about the singular "they/their" and its usage sophistry is not encouraged
>>
>>10026815
I use 'he' and 'his' to refer to all unspecified persons. Debate me.

I use he and his to refer to all unspecified anons. It's okay.
>>
How would that work?
My neighbor and their dog?

Usually happens in essays and manuals and the like:
>But Emerson's model scholar is not satisfied to study books alone. They treat those books as a launching point for the formation of their own unique ideas, as fertilizer for the soil of their own genius.
>>
>>10026815
Either intentionally make the gender vague for artistic reasons, or for triggering. Where ever they go, there they're.
>>
>>10026842
I use she and her to refer to all unspecified persons. All of womankind should do it

>"he or she"

This is fair enough. If all male writers used 'he', and all female 'she'. Then all would be fine with the world... given no inherent sexual bias in publishing, of course...

Nice victim complex there, buddy! You're a celtics fan?
>>
>>10027228
No, by womankind I mean all of humanity
>>
>>10027257
No idea what a 'celtics' is, friend.

My point reiterated: If male writers all used 'he', and all female writers 'she', then there would be no problem. Except perhaps that there are, overall in the world, probably more published male writers than female.

You just used the singular they

(s)/hemst'd've
>>
>>10027295
That sentence is not implicitly singular. 'They' being 'those writers who wish to be anonymous'.
>>
>>10026815
I like the singular form of "they". It gives English more grammatical diversity and allows politeness without awkward and tedious shit like "he or she" (which occasionally spawns pointless debates over the order of either pronouns implying importance). Hell, I even consider myself a moderate feminist (get mad, robots) and while I mostly try to respect people's feelings about gender, pronouns like "pe" or "xir" sound pretty stupid because they have no real precedent in English, so they're just never going to catch on.

RPG manuals were bad at this for a while. I get not wanting to exclude women, but the inverse is still misguided.

>dresses like a woman
This is arbitrary anyway. Greeks and Scots basically wore skirts.

>stereotypicalky feminine pursuits
A distinction becoming less relevant by the decade.

>claims to be bisexual but has only dated men
Should we suspect all heterosexual virgins of secretly being asexuals, then? Not many people really have a diverse history of partners by age 20, and straight men are statistically far more numerous than lesbians.

People like this, who cynically critique anything different about young women, are usually losers obsessed with the concept of authenticity and outrage culture, finding it hard to believe that women have individual preferences beyond superficial interests to impress men. It's the attitude that leads to terms like "attention whore" and "special snowflake" - as if wanting acceptance and attention are bad things rather than inherent desires that most people have, or implying that humans aren't genuinely unique on an individual level and literally shaming them into conformity.

>>
>>10027988
Yes, of course, everyone who disagrees with you is some type of person you dislike, which conveniently makes them wrong. I'm a man, not that you'd believe it anyway. Even if you did, you'd just dismiss it with a caricature of male feminists.

People are unique. There are no two humans with exactly the same genetics, phenotype, personality, beliefs and experience. Much of far right wing politics is devoted to overly generalizing and brushing away these innumerable differences in order to reduce people to oversimplified stereotypes and justify mistreatment. People are just the cells in the organism of the nation, minorities are parasites and beasts, women are breeding machines and trophies for men to have, and so on. More or less, these attitudes correlate with ridiculing any mention of emotional pain, and indifference or the promotion of cruelty.
