Yes for the most part it's all trash. Think of it like this: does the average person watch a tv show to absorb interesting thoughts or a commentary on the human condition? Or do they just want to be entertained for a little while after their shift at their soul-crushing job? Sci-fi books are almost always the latter. It's just entertainment with nothing to say. Of course that's not universal though. Pick up some Phillip K. Dick for some meaningful sci-fi. There are a few others but I can't think of em right now.
