>Ruling is hard. This was maybe my answer to Tolkien, whom, as much as I admire him, I do quibble with. Lord of the Rings had a very medieval philosophy: that if the king was a good man, the land would prosper. We look at real history and it’s not that simple. Tolkien can say that Aragorn became king and reigned for a hundred years, and he was wise and good. But Tolkien doesn’t ask the question: What was Aragorn’s tax policy? Did he maintain a standing army? What did he do in times of flood and famine? And what about all these orcs? By the end of the war, Sauron is gone but all of the orcs aren’t gone – they’re in the mountains. Did Aragorn pursue a policy of systematic genocide and kill them? Even the little baby orcs, in their little orc cradles?

GRRM is the typical example of a brainlet who tries to make himself sound smart by judging what he doesn't understand.
>Did Aragorn pursue a policy of systematic genocide and kill them? Even the little baby orcs, in their little orc cradles?
That's literally what Aragorn did. I bet he hasn't even read LOTR.

Based Aragorn. That's the only way to deal with an enemy population without it backfiring.

Yeah it might seem cruel out of context, but orcs are Morgoth's creatures. They are a twisted imitation of life that can't be compared with men. But of course GRRM doesn't actually know this.

>What was Aragorn’s tax policy?
Shit like this is a great example of why 99% of Reddit-style "worldbuilding" ruins the whimsical and enchanted feelings that fantasy is meant to convey. I read stories about elves to distract me from thinking about taxes and political corruption, not remind me of it.

I agree.
>Another fuckin' JRRT vs. GRRM thread

It's true irl as well though. Genocide has always been the most sensible option in conflicts between tribes and such, it becoming taboo is a pretty recent stance that is detrimental to any populace that adheres to it.

Yeah it's not like genocide and slavery backfired on white people massively already.
>le atrocities are rational
Murder is wrong, in case the internet made you forget.

Lmao

How did genocide backfire on white people?
Name one genocided people that posed a problem once no longer existing.
