A good part of the texts has been taken from Des Knaben Wunderhorn which also served as source for several of Mahler's lieder and some Klopstock poem that I don't remember the name of and that nobody reads anymore.
I'd give a less literal answer but I can't think of a work that is as melancholy and overwrought from the top of my head.
