Yeah the more you write the more you forget what you wrote, so you can go back to stuff you have written a while ago and see what does or doesn't work. It's not really a matter of 'being good' naturally occurring on the page as you write but how well you can manage your thoughts and self-auditing (also why it pays to have an extra set of eyes look over the work because you can lie to yourself easily).
