Is it worth reading? Does it transcend the fantasy genre?

It's pretty Kafkaesque in later parts when Severian is doing pointless chores in Thrax.

It's sci-fi, you mongoloid
Depends how deeply you want to read into it and/or credit Gene Wolfe with what you find.

It's "speculative fiction", you dip.

excuse fucking me?
did you just assumed severian/thecla gender?

I dont think it transcends scifi but it is fairly well written, and fun to try to piece together. The religious themes to me seem to have a mormon bent to them personally, despite GW's catholicism

>Does it transcend the fantasy genre?
Yes and no. A lot of the book's appeal is how it deconstructs/subverts/justifies a lot of fantasy cliches.
