Trying to write a literary paper on this story. Anyone want to give me a good platform to start on or some ideas to think over and include?
have you read the book?

yes sir. I guess I'm trying to articulate the hardships two humans can have when making important decisions but not sure how to approach it meaningfully

a good seed idea. i'll assume this isn't for any type of assignment, as im sure if it were you'd be smart enough to know that your TA or prof should be your primary consultations
every paper needs a thesis, and a thesis is an answer to a question. so what you need to do is start brainstorming some questions to ask yourself about the book, or that you think other people might be asking after they finish reading the book.
super basic stuff is comparative. 'how do the themes of this novel compare to another (usually more canonical) novel?'; 'how do the themes of this novel reflect so-and-so's philosophy of bla-bla? or how do they oppose it?' etc

It is for an assignment, and I have consulted my professor. I want to know if their are other themes I could explore aside from the human condition, alcoholism, and other obvious ones.
