I don't think that replacing the hormones in your whole body is comparable to putting tiny holes in your ears.
I think that is some countries you can get started on hrt before 18. If the child is diagnosed as transgender/transsexual it is perfectly fine. It is also fine to let your edgy teen kids get tattoos and piercings as long as the art is good and it doesn't have health risks.

I have never told my parents I was trans, so I was unable to get proper HRT until I was 18. Instead, I just ordered a shitload of spironolactone and took absolutely excessive doses (didn't want to take estradiol bc I couldnt measure blood levels).

Because I was taking 300-400 mg of spiro every day, my kidneys (or maybe some other organs?) were constantly in pain. I had so many horrible side effects, and I thought I was going to die - but I still took it because I would rather be dead than full of testosterone.

Now that I am taking legit HRT, I don't have horrible side effects or the mental trauma of thinking I'm going to drop dead in front of my mom at the dinner table.

People are going to get HRT one way or another.
