I was transitioning young at the end of the 80s into the early 90s, but tbqh I wasn't leading anything. I was trying to blend in and keep a stealthy low profile.
The legal and social landscape wasn't so horrible. It seemed like the pioneering work needed to make transition feasible had already been largely accomplished, and things were relatively routine by the time I transitioned. When I went to change ID and stuff people seemed to know what to do or didn't have too much trouble finding out.
