Because even though we cared about each other neither one of us was ready for a relationship and it was unhealthy and co-dependent as fuck.
Before we met I was going to the gym regularly trying to get fit, didn't drink anymore, and was eating healthy. After a year with him I had gained 50 lbs, was pretty much an alcoholic, and was drunkenly eating junk food with him on the couch every night.
It took me almost 3 years to get my shit back together after we broke up. But on the plus side I no longer have that annoying "tfw no bf" clingy desperation. Being alone really isn't that bad at all, and it's 100% preferable to just settling for anyone who will take you. No one can magically fix your problems for you, and if you take the time to fix your problems yourself you'll actually be in the position to date decent human beings and have a mutually beneficial relationship.... at least that's the plan...
