If this is a result of your past you must divorce yourself from that past. Your parents do not own you. Are you somewhere you can meet your needs away from your mother? If you are not then get away however you can. You do not deserve to be abused for who you are. If you do have distance then I suggest you sit down, take a long look in the mirror and imagine yourself as a 60-year-old with your whole life behind you as the gender you've been assigned. How does that feel? Is that 60-year-old image of you happy or full of regret? Imagine that older you is there in the mirror looking back at you and ask them "are you glad you didn't listen to the voice inside?"

If your answer is no then you can be sure that voice inside is valid and needs to be answered. If your feelings of shame well up again you think about that old, sad grampa-you who would look back in sorrow at a life half lived. Wouldn't they be glad you made the right choice?
