I don't know the exact reasons why, but throughout HRT in both directions we monitor AST and ALT

I mean, your liver has to process really any medications that you take, and some medications are made with those modifications in mind.
I understand very little about it, but I guess it makes sense that we'd monitor how your liver is processing the exogenous hormones. AST is also a nonspecific biomarker for tissue damage, so if just it is high and not ALT it can warn us that something else in the body is going wrong.
I'm not trans myself and I'm just learning how this works by interest, but if I get smart on trans care and liver health soon I'll gladly come back to update
