When people (including guys I have been on dates with) keep saying

They do it to everyone. Even the most beautiful girl I've ever know has admitted to going to bed crying once because her dad didn't like her makeup and told her "No man wants a girl who looks like a clown".
I'm not sure why they do it. Part of me thinks it's just them trying to "help". Maybe they assume you want them to like you. So they are giving you "advice" on how to be more appealing. Even if you aren't actually into them.
