It's not broscience--literally they just took measurements of gay and straight people of both genders, and found a STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT relationship between ratio and sexuality/gender. Gay cis males and women will have ON AVERAGE equal or >1 digit ratio, gay cos women and men have ON AVERAGE <1 digit ratios.
It's just statistics, and it is ON AVERAGE completely right, however, there's going to be exceptions. The standard deviation overlap is too significant to really use it as a diagnostic.
