I'm thinking of buying a Ruger LCP but I don't know how to use guns and I've tried to kill myself in the past and have BPD so I don't know how great that is.

It seems like something that would work well for my body size and needs though.

But I just figured, if I was going to off myself, I wouldn't want to make it messy and traumatizing to my loved ones by blowing my brains out. I mean, I could just stick a knife in the outlet, deprive myself of sleep for a few days then tie a plastic bag over my head and pass out on the bed, many other peaceful methods. I looked it up and asked friends who know more. Glock isn't just over priced and oversized but it's also 9mm so it'll recoil worse and overpentrate and do something horrible to bystanders.

Rugger LCP seemed much better because it's cheaper but said to be good quality and uses a lower caliber that wouldn't over penetrate or kick back.

Guns are like cancer on society - if there are none than basically no one has them and there's no danger but if you start introducing them than its race to the bottom as people have to arm themselves more and more in order to protect themselves against other people that are arming themselves more and more. The only way to win that spiral is to not trigger it in the first place.

The issue with this also is that we'd have to compare it to how many times OP could have made a mistake or had an accident. Kids, friends, himself, etc.

I haven't seen a single study showing guns being an effective defense tool. If OP wants something to travel with, then mace would be a far superior choice. Guns are for killing others, not defending yourself.

Thank you. Precisely my point. Maybe if you live in the inner city of Chicago, but I really doubt it. Simply brandishing your gun can be a felony. If OP is truly scared for their life, I'd take a good look at why and then see about the solutions. Getting a gun should be the absolute last resort, because you're willing to kill someone and potentially kill yourself (or life in prison).

I worked night auditor at a hotel on the weekends. So many drunks and fights. I thought about getting a gun. Ultimately decided some shit job was never going to be worth it. Look into alternative routes to take, or mace, or even a baton (never a knife. Knives fucking suck as defense). You want to leave or deescalate, not fight and never be a hero.
